Los servidores Dell T20 tienen la posibilidad de activar la gestión remota de su hardware vía tecnología AMT de Intel y provee funcionalidades interesantes tales como un KVM por VNC que veremos aquí como habilitarlo.
Lo primero sería activar la gestión remota, para ello es necesario entrar en el menú MEBx ( Intel Management Engine BIOS Settings ) de la BIOS que se conseguirá pulsando «Crtl + P» en el arranque del servidor.
Habrá que cambiar la password por defecto la primera vez que se entra al menú («admin») y permitirá acceder al menú AMT Configuration.
Activar el acceso por red.
Y configurar la red.
Guardar los cambios y ya será accesible vía navegador web http://IP_Configurada:16992.
Una forma sencilla para activar el KVM que proporciona Intel AMT ha sido la siguiente:
Desde un PC con Windows descargar Intel® AMT Software Development Kit (SDK)
La versión que he descargado en este caso ha sido AMT_SDK_11.0.0.24.zip
Descomprimir el fichero y navegar hasta la ruta AMT_SDK_XXXX\Windows\Intel_AMT\Bin\KVM
Ejecutar KVMControlApplication:
Activar Edit Machine Settings usar User Authentication y pulsando el botón Machine Settings aparecerá una nueva ventana con los parámetros de configuración del servidor VNC:
Como se observa el estado del KVM está en desactivado por defecto.
La configuración que recomiendo y que funciona bien:
KVM Status: Enabled – all ports
Enable Opt-In: No chequeado –> esto permitirá que puedas usar un cliente estandar de VNC que no sea el VNC Plus KVM Viewer con su coste añadido de licencia.
Change Current RFB Password: Contraseña VNC con letra mayúscula, letra minúscula, número y carácter especial con 8 dígitos en total.
Una vez configurado se pulsa OK y ya se puede acceder con un cliente estándar VNC.
